Resumes are not the most easy documents to write since composing a one page paper about your work history can be hard to summarize in such a short space. However, with some preparation and timely tips, this process is not completely unbearable in most respects.
Use a good quality paper when printing your final copy. The favored colors are white or light cream. This is both easy to get as well as being easy on the eyes. You should also use a one inch border around the entire document. It assures a good look to your paper and proper formatting will make your paper stand out from the rest. Using Times New Roman or Arial font with a 12 point type face, print off a sample copy to be critiqued by a trusted friend or mentor. Actually, as many people as possible should perform this simple service. They are looking for spelling errors, grammatical errors and anything out of the ordinary.
You can also do some proof reading of your own by actually speaking your words out loud as if you were the human resources person doing the evaluation. If something doesn’t sound correct to you, chances are it isn’t. Fix all of these errors before submission. You will be glad that you did all of this legwork when the phone rings. If you are submitting a resume online, make sure that you save a Microsoft Word document as version 2003 and not 2007. This is because many companies have not upgraded to the newest version of Word and won’t be able to read your resume. You definitely don’t want that to happen after all this work. Good luck!
