How To Become A Certified Professional Resume Writer

There are a variety of organizations, including the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches (PARWCC), headed by Frank Fox, which offer individuals the opportunity to become accredited Professional Resume Writers. There are numerous organizations that provide similar services and certifications. However, the PARWCC is generally recognized as the industry’s most respected certification.

There is a great deal of work that goes into become a Certified Professional Resume Writer. In addition, there is an initial fee of approximately $350 to begin the process to become a Certified Professional Resume Writer. Regardless of whether or not you pass the test, this fee is non-refundable. Once you provide the PARWCC with your pertinent personal information, they will send you a packet, detailing the steps to prepare yourself for the examination process.

You are mailed a 50 page document, which includes all of the necessary study materials. The study materials are all encompassing and outline every aspect of the resume writing process. Once you have completed the required reading, you will contact the PARWCC to advise them that you are ready to begin the test to become a Certified Professional Resume Writer. Once your request has been processed, a member of their staff will contact you, and e-mail you a copy of the examination.

The examination to become a Certified Professional Resume Writer consists of two parts. The first part is a timed multiple choice test. The second part of the test will present you with a sample resume and cover letter that you are to critique. You are presented with the challenge of identifying 20 errors present within the resume. Next, you will have to create a resume and cover letter to be reviewed by existing Certified Professional Resume Writers, and members of the PARWCC. After creating the resumes, which are tailored to a sample candidate’s professional history and objectives, you will print the newly crafted documents on waterproofed resume paper, and mail the documents to the PARWCC.

Your results will be sent to you within 6-8 weeks of submission. There is no “score”, but you are rendered a pass or fail grade. Once you have successfully passed the test, you will be added to the PARWCC directory, and your achievement will be published within their monthly newsletter.

The Certified Professional Resume Writer accreditation is the most recognized achievement within the industry, and most prospective clients will want to work with an individual who has this particular certification.
